Edward Green King married Anna Johnson on 1 May 1890 in Menard County, Illinois. They had three children: Jefferson Johnson, Edward Herschel, and Mary Edna.

Obit: Edward G. King, 76, former mayor of the city of Lincoln, and active in the civic life of Logan and Menard counties for forty-five years, died today in his farm home at Indian Point. Mr. King was born Dec. 12, 1858, in Hopewell community, Hart County, Kentucky. He received his early education in Kentucky and went to Petersburg in 1880, where he found employment on the farm of the late Governor Colby. Later he taught school for a number of years near Petersburg and then read law at Minneapolis. Mr. King came to Lincoln in 1889, and entered the practice of law. He served as city attorney in 1890, state's attorney in 1892, and after leaving that post formed a law partnership with James E. Miller, which continued until 1916. During his residence in Lincoln, he served as mayor, as a member of the board of education and as a director and president of Lincoln Chautauqua association. Returning to Indian Point, Menard County, Mr. King was elected state's attorney and continued active in civic affairs, being instrumental in the organization of the Menard County Farm Bureau, and served as its president three years. Surviving are the widow and three children, Mrs. D. B. Lourie of Winnetka; E. H. King of Peoria, and J. J. King of Chicago. Two sisters and four brothers also survive. Mrs. J. Wigginton of Lincoln is a sister. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the residence. Interment will be in Indian Point Cemetery.
