GOLDEN WEDDING

Manchester, Ia., Nov. 3 – Special: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis, for over sixty-five years residents of Delaware County, observed their golden wedding anniversary at their home here Sunday. All of their nine children and families were present except one son, Harry, of Buhl, Idaho, who was unable to attend.

An elaborate dinner was served at the Davis home at noon, covers being laid for 36 guests. Mr. Davis was born in Canada in February, 1850, and came to the United States when nine years of age, and settled on a farm in the Spring Branch neighborhood southeast of Manchester in 1865. The next year he moved to a farm in Delaware, Ia.

Mrs. Davis, whose maiden name was Mary Jane Roberts, was born on a farm in Hickory Grove, now Oneida, 70 years ago. Her parents came to the states from London, England. The marriage was solemnized by Rev. William Cobb, at Earlville, Nov. 2, 1881. The couple went housekeeping on a farm at Delaware and moved to Manchester in 1920.

Nine children were born to this couple, all of whom are living; Walter C. Davis and Curtis B. Davis and families, Duluth, Minn.; Lewis G. Davis and family, Dubuque; Alvah Davis and family, Mitchell, S. Dakota; Walter Schwandt and family, Atlantic, Iowa; Ross D. Davis, Delaware, Iowa.; Birney J. Davis and family, Delhi, Iowa; Clark and wife, Clutier, Iowa, and Mrs. Dale Smith and husband, Manchester.
