J.T.E., as he was called, was the son of Joseph Whigham, Jr., and Jane Elizabeth Walden Whigham. He was the husband of Mary Frances Bloodworth, the father of nine children, and the owner of land which was donated by his descendants to the State of Alabama to create Blue Springs State Park, Barbour County, Alabama.
