BERMUDA RUN - Mr. Milton Day Baughman, Jr., 87, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was a resident of Bermuda Village in Bermuda Run, N.C. Mr. Baughman was born in Warren, Ohio, on July 18, 1920, to the late Milton Day Baughman and Mary Kathryn Boone Baughman. Prior to moving to North Carolina, he lived in Warren, Ohio, for 75 years, and worked as an engineer, designing machinery for the Steel Industry for Wean United. Mr. Baughman graduated from Purdue University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Social fraternity and Pi Tau Sigma Historical Honorary fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seabee in the South Pacific, retiring as a First Lieutenant. Mr. Baughman was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Warren, Ohio, and most recently a member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Trumbull Country Club, the Buckeye Club where he served as their president, Dusquene and University Clubs of Pittsburgh, and was also a member of the Warren Rotary Club, and Warren YWCA as a board member. Mr. Baughman and his family have enjoyed their summer home on Chautauqua Lake at Chautauqua, N.Y., for over thirty years. There he spent many afternoons sailing and teaching the grandchildren how to water-ski. His two brothers, Lewis of Warren, Ohio, and George of Delray Beach, Fla. preceded him in death. Surviving are are his wife of 65 years, Jeanne Whiting Baughman; five children, Kay Pulkrabek and husband Larry of Lancaster, Pa., Tom Baughman and wife Michele of Naperville, Ill.,. Sue Downey and husband Tom of Claremont, Calif., Sallie Anderson of Wausaw, Wis. and Pam Lieber of Gahanna, Ohio. He also leaves nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be conducted Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30, Thursday at the Bermuda Village living room.
