SMITHFIELD — Wesley Edwin Gibbs Sr., 71, of 18235 Day's Point Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his residence. He was a native of Engelhard, N.C., and retired from Gwaltney of Smithfield in the maintenance department, with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Smithfield Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Lola Edwards Gibbs; two sons, Wesley Edwin Gibbs Jr. and Ronnie Lee Gibbs, both of Smithfield; two sisters, Myra G. Dillon of Swan Quarter, N.C., and Dorothy G. Holiday of Engelhard; a brother, Winfred Gibbs of Engelhard; and a grandson, Clifford Lee Gibbs. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in St. Luke's Memorial Park, with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
