Albion Skinner Suicides
Insanely jealous of His Bethrothed He Kills Himself.
Albion Skinner, of Valparaiso, son of the late Hon. John N. Skinner, committed suicide Monday night, by putting a bullet through his head. Skinner is a young man about 21 years old, and for years has been working in the Adams Express office. He has been going with a young lady, Miss Fannie Baum, daughter of Wesley Baum, a prominent farmer living about five miles south-east of Valparaiso, and was engaged to be married to her. A short time ago, the young lady was escorted to an entertainment by another young man, and the fact reached Skinner's ears. It so worked upon him that he got up from a sick bed, hired a livery rig, and went to the Baum residence, and asked Miss Fannie to take a ride. She went with him and took along a ride. It is supposed that Skinner upbraided her for going with any one else, and that the two quarrelled. At any rate, when the couple returned to the young lady's home, Miss Baum went into the house, and was talking to Skinner through the window, when suddenly a pistol report rang out on the air, and Skinner fell, the ball entering on the side of his head and passing out on the other. He had shot himself. He was carried into the house, but remained unconscious until 11 o'clock Tuesday, when he expired.
Young Skinner is highly connected in Valparaiso, and his relatives are wild with grief over the affair. His mother is completely prostrated, and on bearing news went into spasm after spasm, insane jealousy is the cause attributed for the rash act. The funeral takes place to-day.
