Alice Nettie Lydia Bittner, 98, of Taylor, was called home by our heavenly father June 17, 2015.

Alice was the first of four children born to Adolf and Emma (Roehr) Mager Jan. 9, 1917, in Coupland.

Her baptism was conducted in German at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Coupland March 11, 1917. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church Dec. 4, 1932.

Alice attended Mager School in Beyersville. Both the Mager School and the Mager Cemetery were named after her grandparents, who donated the land for the community. This is where she happened to catch the eye of her future husband, Walter.

Alice and Walter were married Dec. 31, 1936, and they shared a wonderful marriage for nearly 74 years before Walter’s passing in 2010. They were blessed with six children: Daniel and Lois Bittner of Austin; Waldeen Womack of Houston; Bonnie and Robert Kaderka of Taylor; Donna and Robert Rinehart of Taylor; David and Denise Bittner of Spring and the late Jane Bittner. Surviving sisters-in-law, Mary Lucy Mager of Hutto, Betty Bittner of Taylor, and Bettie Bittner of Haskell. Alice was also blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents, Adolf and Emma Mager, her husband Walter Bittner, daughter, Jane Bittner, and siblings, Hilda Anderson, Clarence Mager and Rueben Mager.

Alice was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Alice lived by the belief that the cornerstones of life revolved around family, friends, church and her community. She loved playing the piano, singing hymns, playing 42 dominos, listening to polka music and dancing. Her favorite hobby was sewing quilts.

She took great delight in making sure that each one of her family members had their own special quilt. Alice also took pride in donating quilts for her church auctions and family reunions.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Corby Bittner, Steven Jahnke, John Kaderka, Russell Kaderka, SC Inman IV, Kurt Rinehart, Matthew Bittner and Andrew Bittner.

Visitation will be held at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Sunday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of her Life will be held Monday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 411 CR 401 in Taylor, with burial following the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. There will a reception following the service.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Stan Simonik.

For those who wish to do so, gifts in memory of Alice can be made to the Mager Cemetery Association, 2121 FM 3349, Taylor Texas 76574 or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 411 CR 401, Taylor Texas 76574.
