Obituary
Spring Valley Mercury-Friday September 21, 1917
Death of Mrs. George S. Rix. The sad, but not unexpected, news of the death of Mrs. Maude Rix, wife of George S. Rix, was announced at 9:15 o'clock Wednesday evening, September 5, at the lakeside home at Chautauqua Park. The deceased lady, whose maiden name was Maude C. Nash, was born Cherry Grove, Fillmore county, Minnesota, on the 22 of May 1875, and was 42 years of age last May. After the death of her mother she lived for a number of years in the family of her uncle, C.P. Nash at Lime Springs. She was married to her surviving husband, George S. Rix, on the 25 of December 1895, and since that time she has had her home in Millbank and enjoyed an active and helpful life in the social affairs of the city, where her cheery presence and kindly enthusiasm for social and church gatherings was at all times enjoyable feature, until about year ago, one a fatal illness from cancer commenced to make itself known, compelled her to forego these pleasant associations. Medical skill and surgery failed to check the ravages of the disease that had fastened itself upon her and a kindly gentle personage has passed from our midst. Besides her husband the diseased leaves an only daughter, Miss Doris, who has just received young womanhood. Mrs. Rix' father died during the past year, but four brothers and a sister survive her, these being: Will A. of Chicago; Alvin of Cherry Grove, Minnesota.; Charles Nash, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, USA.; Mark Nash of Chicago; Alvin Nash, of Minneapolis; and Mrs. Bertha Greenbaum of Mendota, Illinois. These together with an uncle, C.P. Nash are all here to attend the funeral. A Step-mother, Mrs. Florence Nash, and the following half-brothers and sisters at Spring Valley also mourn their sister: Edward, Pearl, Esther, Floyd, Jay, and Earl. The funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 2:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church, of which society Mrs. Rix had been a member for years, Rev. Evans, the former pastor, conducting the service. Millbank, SD Herald Advance.
