This community was shocked to hear of the death of Mrs. Dr. H. S. Titus last Saturday at Marshalltown where she had been taken to undergo an operation for appendicitis.
Death was due to peritonitis, following the operation, which proved serious, at the St. Thomas hospital in that city.
Mrs. Titus was 63 years of age. It was found that a supernumerary or false appendix had grown out from the small intestine, ruptured and caused a small abscess. Her case was serious from the beginning, but she continued to do very nicely until Saturday, when a change for the worse resulted.
Mrs. Katherine Titus was born in Walsh, (sic) in Hingham, Sheboygan county, Wis., Aug. 1, 1852. On May 20, 1875, she was united in marriage with Dr. Harrison S. Titus at Sheboygan. For the past twenty-seven years the family has lived in Rhodes.
Mrs. Titus is survived by her husband and six children. Eight were born, but two - William and Henry - died in 1901 and 1912, respectively. The remaining children are: Mrs. E. C. Lynn, 1001 West State street, and Glen R. Titus, of Marshalltown; Mrs. C. C. Caswell, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. B. L. Kennedy, Collins, Chas E. Titus, Rhodes, and Mrs. C. J. Smith, Mt. Vernon. There is one brother, Charles Walsh, of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Thomas Walsh her stepmother, of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.
