Fred T. Morgan passed away on June 16, 2008, after a long battle with cancer and heart failure.

Fred was born in Indianapolis in 1927, the sixth of 11 children born to Alonzo and Adeline McLaughlin Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Merna Crawford Morgan of Helena; his son, Steve Morgan, and his wife, Cyd, of Pine, Ariz.; his son, Jim Morgan of Helena; and daughter, Ginger Morgan of Omaha, Neb. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemary Morgan of Helena. His surviving siblings are Richard and Paul of Indianapolis; his sister, Joan Collins of Fresno, Calif., and his sister, Lois Zwahlen of Tulsa, Okla. He is also survived by three grandsons, Daniel and Nathan of Omaha, Jeremy of Helena; one granddaughter, Danielle of Omaha; and one great-grandson, Taylor Crum of Helena.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, seeing action in the Philippines at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Force and U.S. Air Force during the Cold War. He was stationed in Germany during the Berlin Air Lift.

Fred joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 1956, in El Paso, Texas, and transferred to Mercedes, Texas, then to Cleveland and Omaha, and retired as district director of the Helena INS district office in 1977. He retired from the Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1982 and remained in Helena. Fred's great loves after retiring were travel and train rides with his buddies.
