William Wesley Arthur died January 17, 1912 at his home in Bement as a result of a fall from the haymow of the Tabor Livery Stable where he had been employed several years. He was born August 5, 1841 in Green Co., Indiana.

When the war broke out in 1861, he was among the first to enlist in the 14th Indiana Volunteers and served his country until the close of the war. Soon after his return, he was married to Maizie Stamper, who died in a few years. Two children, both of whom are present, were born to this union. On October 31, 1872 he was united in marriage to Ellen A. Knapp at Bloomfield, Indiana. To this union were born eleven children – six daughters and five sons, three of whom died in infancy. Those remaining to mourn the loss of a faithful husband and kind and loving father are the wife and children: Mrs. Cynthia Shepherd of Bement; Walter and Mrs. Myrtle Perry, both of Monticello; Mrs. Pearl McMillan of Cerro Gordo; Everett and Mrs. Ethel Peck, Melvin and Garnet, and Mrs. Cecil Johnson all of Bement. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. J. Sullivan, a former resident of Bement, but now of Oklahoma; and six half brothers and sisters: Bert, Fletcher and Emma Arthur, Mrs. Turah Pickle, Mrs. Mollie Gilmore and Mrs. Linkie Hunter.

He was a member of the M.E. Church of Bement having joined several years ago. Burial was in Bement Cemetery.
