Everett Smedley "Brownie" Browne, age 86, of Dashiell Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 in Obici Hospital. He was a native of Wilmington, Del. Browne, a retired Chief Master Sergeant, was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars. During World War II, he crewed 817 hours in B-17's and then crewed 14,800 hours in B-29's and B-50's on various missions including testing Loran and Navigating systems over the North Pole. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for 20 years at NASA on such projects as the Lunar Lander and as a test car driver for diagonal braking systems before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge and was very active as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace Browne; two sons, Tom Brown and Tim Brown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be conducted Friday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 6 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
