Ashton served as a Staff Sergeant, 669th Bomber Squadron, 416th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cheshire County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 20, 1940, prior to the war, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Architect and also as Single, without dependents.

Ashton was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart. He may also have been awarded an Air Medal.
