SMITHFIELD – Mr. Robert Frank Steigner, 68, of 107 Smithfield Blvd, died Monday in Patrick Henry Health Care Center in Newport News. A native of Petersburg, Pa., he was a retired mechanist from Baw Knox Corp., Wheeling, W.Va. He also was a retired supervisor of maintenance at Smithfield Packing Co. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Wheeling, and a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in engineering. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Agnew Steigner; a daughter, Mrs. Susan S. Lipman of Baltimore, Md., a sister, Mr. Dolores Besterman of Valparaiso, Ind.; two brothers, Joseph Steigner of Wheeling, Hubert Steigner of Levittown, Pa.; and three grandchildren. A Mass will be held this evening at 8:30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 100 Harpersville Rd., Newport News. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad. Colonial Funeral Home in Smithfield is in charge.
