After playing two seasons at the University of Arizona, he was drafted into the NBA by the Orlando Magic in 1991 with the tenth overall pick of the first round. During his NBA career, he also played for the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, and the Detroit Pistons. He was a member of the Chicago Bulls championship-winning team during the 1996 – 1997 NBA season. He retired prior to the 1999-2000 season while considered to be at the prime of his career.
He changed his name in 1998, to Bison Dele, in honor of his Native American and African heritage.
In 2002, he and his girlfriend, Serena Karlan, sailed from Tahiti on his catamaran, the Hakuna Matata. Others on the voyage were the skipper, Bertand Saldo, and Bison's brother, Miles Dabord.
His brother, Miles, returned to Tahiti from the voyage alone, and the others' mysterious disappearance was inconclusive. It was presumed they were murdered and/or thrown overboard.
