Harriett graduated from Partridge High School in 1933 and then received her teacher's degree from Emporia State Teachers College.
She worked as a teacher in the Reno County Schools and during WWII she worked at an aircraft factory. She later worked for Pierce Faris and Co. and was always a homemaker and a piano teacher to many.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Silver Leaf Chapter #464.
On Feb. 1, 1947, she married H. Clayton Foss in Partridge. He died Dec. 26, 1996.
Survivors include four sons: Douglas L. Foss and wife Jill, Hutchinson, Dan W. Foss and wife Beth, South Hutchinson, Russell K. Foss and wife Janna, Nickerson, and Lyle C. Foss, Hutchinson; two brothers, William O. Dixon, Wichita, and Richard Dixon, Haviland; five sisters, Jeanne White, St. George, Thelma Schmitt, South Hutchinson, Charyln Balabanis, Cheney, Wash., Virginia Field, Manhattan, and Celia Boyea, Wixon, Mich.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Donna Holmes, June Foss, Dorothy Nossaman and Mildred DeWitt.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Interment will be in Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorials to: Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
