Martha Ellen Brady Bird, 63, widow of Lewis R. Bird of Milo, died 15 April 1939, at her home. She was born 29 December 1875 in Fairview, Utah, the 13th of 15 children born to Warren Paddix and Rachel Ann Cox Brady. She met Lewis Richard Bird Sr. at a party in Benjamin, Utah. They were married 27 November 1893. They came to Idaho in 1902 with some family and friends in a trip that took 30 days. She carried a 3 week old son on a pillow plus took care of her other 4 children. That fall, their 4 year old son, William Isiah passed away and was buried in the Iona Cemetery. They finally decided to settle at Milo, Idaho where two more sons were born. They raised 6 children to maturity. Lewis Richard Jr., Mary Ellen, Eliza Pearl, Warren Alvin, Charles Edward and Angus Brady. Martha was a hard worker and helped make the farm into a home. She took great care of her Children, her orchard and garden and chickens. She enjoyed music and taught all the children to sing harmony. She read to them and most could read before they entered school. Often she was called to act as a midwife. Martha was an active member of the LDS Church and a dedicated member of the Relief Society. Her husband passed away in 1931. She suffered a stroke in 1939 and passed away 15 April 1939. She was survived by 6 children,four sons, Lewis Richard, Warren Alvin, Charles Edward Bird all of Milo and two daughters, Mary Ellen Newman and Eliza Pearl Palmer of Milo, 37 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 18 April at the Milo Chapel followed by burial in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
