Medina County Gazette - June 15, 1883: Judge Allen Pardee, who died June 6, 1883, was born in Norfolk, Litchfield county, Conn., Feb. 7, 1790. He was a son of Ebenezer Pardee and Anna Miner, second of twelve children, ten sons and two daughters, all deceased except Augustus a resident of Indiana, and Aaron of Wadsworth. His father moved from Connecticut to Marcellus, Onondalgo (Onondaga) Co., New York, when he was a small boy.

At the age of 21 he married Miss Phebe Foster, who was the mother of all his children, and who all survive him except his oldest son, W. N. Pardee, and one who died in infancy. His wife died in 1844. He was a soldier of 1812, for which he drew a pension, and made his last affidavit's two days before his death.

He moved to Ohio and settled in this township in 1818, on the farm now owned by J. S. Oberholtzer. He was fourteen years associate judge of Medina county, and fifteen years a justice of the peace. In 1826 he and his brother John started the first store in Wadsworth. In 1880 they built Yoders mill. He also built a mill in Copley and set up0 a carding and cloth works. He was a Universalist in sentiment, and a Democrat in politics. Possessed of a very vigorous constitution he was scarcely ever un well and never known to have a fit of sickness. The year before he moved to Ohio he traveled on foot from Onondalgo County to Buffalo, from there to Erie, Pa., from Erie to Pittsburg, and then down to Ohio to Cincinnati, from there to Cleveland, visited Wadsworth and selected his farm, and returned to Marcellus, New York, afoot and alone.

He died June 6, 1882, aged 96 years and 4 months. He was one of the most active business men and a leading man in the community until old age compelled him to desist; but he retained his eye sight and memory to the last.

He was solid temperance man, and remained so until death. For years after he came to Wadsworth, he and his brother Aaron were the only men in the township that didn't drink wiskey at raisings.
