Obit MDR Jan 1923: Albert Gregory, son of John Hiner and Amanda Gregory, was born near Brooklyn, Ind., August 6, 1869. On the morning of January 14, 1923, he fell into that dreamless sleep which "kisses down his eyelids still." We come today to utter no sad farewells but whispering a soft good-night, with its promise of the morning, we will leave him sleeping there.

Practically all his fifty-three years of life were spent on the farm where he was born. While still a young boy his father died. He willingly assumed the responsibilities that came to him and gave to his mother and sister tender love and care. Always ready to shield and protect them he was model son and brother. He will be missed in many ways and in many places, but nowhere so sorely as in the home where he leaves desolate that dearly loved sister, Melva, the last surviving member of their family. His was a tender and loving heart. His ears were never deaf to the call of suffering. He gave freely of himself and his means, where he could in any way lessen distress. He did his kind acts in a quiet way, for the sake of the good he accomplished, never wishing praise. He had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for nealy forty years. He was a good relative, friend, and neighbor and was widely known, respected and liked.

In the fall of 1920 he was stricken with paralysis. Since then he had never been well. He has been a patient sufferer and now an invisible hand has reached out and loosening his walls of pain, let his imprisoned soul go free.

He had spoken of death not as some far journey, but as though it was gradually opening the door through which he saw the Elysian fields.

That is our balm of Gilead today. As we consign him to the shelter of that low green tent from which the curtain never outward swings, we know, although our hearts are aching and our eyes with tears are dim, that while it is midnight for us, it is morning for him. -----Nellie Taylor.

Nellie was, of course, a cousin too.
