John H. Johnston, 75, a retired Rock Island Lines engineer, died Tuesday night in his home in Joliet, Ill.

He was born Dec. 15, 1877, in Bowling township, Rock Island county. He became employed by the Rock Island Lines in 1900. That year he married Jennie Sprague who died about 15 years ago. Twelve years ago, he married Nellie Neiles, who survives.

Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. A. W. Johnson, Rock Island; a son, Laverne Johnston, Davenport; two brothers, Edward, a Bowling township supervisor, and T. R. Johnston, Kankakee, and a sister, Mrs. E. T. Sederquist, Bowling township.

Graveside services will be held for John H. Johnston, 75, retired Rock Island Lines engineer and a former resident of Bowling township, at 3:30 p.m. today in Chippiannock cemetery, Rock Island. Earlier services will be held at 1:30 a.m. in Joliet.
