Television Personality. In 1980s, he began his career in Hollywood, as a talented stand-up comic and actor doing audience warm-ups for sitcoms. Johnny Carson saw him perform and invited him to perform on The Tonight Show in 1986. He became the host of the TV series Family Feud game show in 1988 and was an instant hit. He was almost killed in a serious car accident in 1993 and was fired from the Family Feud game show in 1994. Suffering from chronic pain, he became deeply depressed. He hosted a TV game show called Family Challenge in 1995, but the show never became popular. Separated from his wife and with deep financial troubles, he was taken to the psychiatric ward of Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Glendale, California. He hanged himself in his hospital room at 4:07 am, on June 2, 1996.
