WEBSTER — Baldwin "Baldy" Milton Schlamann, 85, Webster, died Friday, June 13, 2008, in a hospital at Aberdeen.

Funeral services will be Tuesday in Christ The King Catholic Church at Webster with the Rev. David Axtmann officiating.

Burial will be in St. Otto's Cemetery with military graveside rites by Herbert McKennet American Legion Post 40.

Visitation at Coester Funeral Home in Webster.

He was born Jan. 13, 1923, in Day County to William and Mary (Battig) Schlamann. He was baptized and confirmed at Morton Methodist Church. He spent three years in country school in Central Point Township and attended grades four through eight at Webster Elementary School. He graduated from Webster High School in 1942.

Upon graduation, he entered the service and trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., for 14 weeks. He spent six months in the Hawaiian Islands. He then served in New Guinea, Mortai and the Philippines where he was wounded. He returned to the states April 13, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

April 19, 1948, he married Betty Fleischaker at St. Otto's Catholic Rectory in Webster. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past April. Over the years, he worked for Pete Monzel Company, City of Webster Municipal Liquor Store and Powers Produce. He worked for Foremost Dairy/Lakeside Dairy as a milkman for many years until retiring. He then worked at Cornwell Drug as a delivery person for several years.

He was a 50-year plus member of the Herbert McKennet American Legion Post 40 and the VFW Post 4690 of Webster. He was also a charter member of Lions Club and a member of Christ The King Church.

He enjoyed collecting coins for his grandchildren, baking and sharing with friends. He was often seen walking his dog, Weebo.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Webster; one daughter, Barbara (John) Jacobson of Dusseldorf, Germany; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Morgan of Weeki Wachee, Fla., and Ethel Peterson of Antioch, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Schlamann of Rapid City and Marie Schlamann of Leadville, Colo.
