Ogdensburg Journal - Tuesday Feb 13, 1940
Spencer Corners — Mrs. Ida Puffer, age 77, widow of the late Louis Puffer, passed away at her home on the old Canton road at 10 o'clock Saturday night, Feb. 3. Death was attributed to a heart ailment and complications.

She had been in failing health for some time and was confined to her bed since last August. Mrs. Puffer was born in the Town of DeKalb Mar. 12, 1862, a daughter of the late John and Sabra Haven Henning. She was married to Louis Puffer of Canton on Jan. 23, 1894 at DeKalb Jet. by Rev. J. R. Dunham.

A son Ernest Puffer and a stepdaughter Marion Puffer who keep the home did everything possible for their mother's comfort and during the last few months tenderly cared for her, scarcely leaving her bedside.

Others who survive are a son, Ralph Puffer, Canton; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Frank Perry, Rensselaer Falls, and one step-son, William Puffer, DeKalb Junction. Another step-son, Harry Puffer, died in 1923 and a daughter, Flora Puffer Hardy, passed away in 1935. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Barber and Miss Ethie Pfenning of Gouverneur, and Mrs. Robert McClellan of Rensselaer Falls and one brother, John Henning, Gouverneur; also several grandchildren.

Mrs. Puffer was a devoted mother and a kind neighbor. She loved her home and always had a warm welcome for the many friends who visited her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Services were held at the home Tuesday p.m. at 2 o'clock. Rev. Frank Brown of DeKalb Junction officiated. The profusion of flowers contributed to the esteem in which Mrs. Puffer was held. Interment was at Union Cemetery.
