Joseph B. Hepler was born in Westmoreland Co., PA He married Margaret Gibson on May 26, 1825. Joseph and Margaretp robably attended the old Sewickley Presbyterian Church in South Huntingdon Twp., for this is where Margaret's grave can been found along with her two sisters Ruth and Jane, and her parents William and Margaret Gibson. Also Ruth Gibson's Husband Jacob Hepler, brother to Joseph B. Hepler, is buried. Joseph B. married Susanna Coder on May 29, 1836. They were members of Hoffman's Church near Smithton. In 1842 he bought his first property from A. Fulton. By 1849 he was in partial control of the William Gibson place. He continued to buy properties in Mendon, , PA and South of Mendon towards the Barren Run Area. Since all of these records were not recorded in the Greensburg Court House an accurate account of these transactions would be difficult. From the information we know that he held at least one mortgage and probably rented many of the others. When he sold a property sometimes it was a portion of the original purchase. From his will he apparently spent his last days living in Smithton, PA. Joseph and Susanna are buried in the Hoffman Cemetery, Smithton, PA.
