ALTHOUGH THE OBITUARY and the HEADSTONE name indicates his name was FRANKLIN, in fact, it was Fielding Wesley Gibson. He was named after his father's brother. Interviews with family have revealed that he was known as Grandpa Duncan. The older grandchildren were aware that his initials were F.W. and by the time of his death it appears that the assumption was the F was for Franklin.

He was born to Thomas Jefferson Gibson and Minerva Kline. Prior to the war between the states he lived with his parents and older siblings at Gibson Plantation. His brothers Gadi and David joined the Confedracy, and his eldest sister Sarah married Dr Monnette. This left only Fielding and sister Louisiana at home on the plantation with their parents during the war.

The war brought devastation and an end to life as they had known it before the war. His brother David died during the war 1862. His brother Gadi survived the war and settled in Crystal Springs, MS.

In 1882, Fielding married Mary Belle Child. They had six children: Pearl, Langston, Wilmer, Carter Hill, Lillian Tyler, Gadi Child.
