Mrs. Laura Jane Padgett, 81, widow of Henry T. Padgett, died at her home three miles northwest of Washington at 11:10 a.m. this morning. She had been ill three weeks after she suffered a broken hip, and her condition was serious for a few hours before her death.
Born Sept. 25, 1867, in Pike County. Mrs. Padgett was the daughter of William H. and Frances (sutton) Fielder. She had lived in Daviess County since childhood and was married to Henry T. Padgett March 9, 1890. Mr. Padgett died in February, 1948.
Mrs. Padgett was a member of the E.U.B. Church of this city.
Children are Mary Padgett, at home; Mrs. Carris Osmon, R.R. 3; Oscar Padgett, Vincennes; Claude and Grace Padgett, both at home. A son died in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Brown and Mrs. Ada Ball, also are dead.
She leaves one brother, Will Fielder, of Cornettsville; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the E.U.B. Church in this city with the Rev. R.C. Hale officiating and burial in the Plainville Cemetery. Friends may call at the V.L. Poindexter Funeral Chapel.
