Revolutionary war veteran. Married Sarah Newsom Gill on 8 Jun 1786 in Dinwiddie Co., VA. His wife inherited Folly Castle in Petersburg, Virginia.

His original marker was replaced when his wife died, and during cemetery restoration in 2008, was found "recycled" in two parts as sidebars for another grave (the writing was facing the inside). The inscription on the original marker appears to be a poem: "Major Erasmus Gill, who during the whole of the Revolutionary War bravely faced the enemy. Soldier, who approach this stone and draw a tear, the relics of a brave man moulder here. If kind, sincere, if honor wells thy breast, kneel, here a brothers [unknown word] lye at rest."
