Cause of death: Gunshot wound to the chest
From the Taylor Daily Press, Taylor, Texas - November 3, 1931.
G. E. Monzingo, 27, son of B. B. Monzingo, Eastham prison farm captian, died in Baytown from a pistol shot wound received in a scuffle with Constable J. C. Shoemaker and Deputy Constable J. C. Hunnicutt. Shoemaker was charged with the shooting.
Hunnicutt said the argument started when he and Shoemaker tried to take a gun away from Monzingo Monday afternoon.
"We had a warrant charging him with rudely displaying firearms," Hunnicutt said, "and when we walked up to him he pulled out the gun. He half-cocked it as if he was going to shoot."
"I knocked it out of his hand to the pavement and Monzingo grabbed for it again before I could stop him."
Examining trial for Shoemaker was to be held Nov. 3, 1931.
