Born July 24, 1911 in Eggleston, Va., she was a daughter of the late Luther Haynes Butt, Sr. and Mary Louise Croy Butt.
Mrs. Ashworth was a graduate Eggleston High School and the West Virginia Business College. She was active in her community, a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for fifty-seven years, the Bluefield Quota Club, Bluefield Lawn and Garden Club, and was a member of the John Parker Chapter of the Daughters of American Colonist of Roanoke. Mrs. Ashworth was co-owner and retired from the Ashworth Custom Shop located in Bluefield, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Raleigh J Ashworth; a daughter: Rita Lane VanReenen and son-in-law Rev. Albert Cecil VanReenen, Jr.; four sisters: Mary Juliette, Elsie Buchanan and husband Kenneth, Louise Oberlin and husband John, Ruby Johnston and husband Edward; three brothers: Buford Butts and wife Louise, James Butts, and Wilmont Butts and wife Ruth.
Survivors include: A brother, Luther H. Butts, Jr. and wife Estell; sisters-in-law: Louise Butts, Helena Ashworth Bailey; three grandchildren: Cecil VanReenen of St. Louis, Mo., James VanReenen and wife Lisa of Bluefield, Va., Steven VanReenen and wife Diane of Asheville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren: Kandice VanReenen, Katlyn Lane VanReenen, Taylor Rebecca VanReenen; two step-great-great-grandchildren: Rebecca Marrs, Daniel Marrs; and a beloved friend of sixty-five years: Helen Counts.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ashworth will be held from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Monte Vista Park Cemetery located in Green Valley.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the family.
