Henry married Anna Elizabeth (last name unknown) in Bavaria, Germany. Henry, Anna and 3 children, Henry Jr., Jacob and Margaretha immigrated in 1832 from Germany, landing in New York. They moved to Pennsylvania then to Ohio. In 1836 they moved to West Point, Lee Co., Iowa, where they settled and Henry & Henry Jr. worked in a mill.

Henry Abel (sometimes spelled Ebel) is confirmed buried in St. Peter's Presbyterian Cemetery but a tombstone was not found.
