James Carrico Griffin, 89, of Parkersburg, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 7, 1918, in Sistersville, W.Va., a son of the late Will O. and Edna Collins Griffin.

James served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the following decorations: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 159 in Williamstown. James retired from American Bisque Co. in Williamstown, where he was a die and mold maker. He attended the Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna and was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church. James enjoyed gardening and being with his family.

He is survived by one daughter, Janet Faye Smith and husband, Joseph, of Vienna; a granddaughter, Eugenia Faye Moore and husband, Rob, of Parkersburg; a stepgranddaughter, Angela Lough and husband, Brian, of Marietta; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jordan, Justin and Mallory; special nieces, Jane Gorman and husband, Rich, and their son, Bryan of Williamstown, and Tammy Burkey and husband, Russ, and their daughter, Samantha, of Parkersburg; and several other nieces and nephews who reside out of town.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenna A. Jackson Griffin; his twin sister, Maxine Allbright; and his brother, John Griffin.

Funeral services for Mr. Griffin will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna with the Rev. Daniel Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
