John W. Davidson of Mattoon died at 9:30 o'clock Thursday night at Decatur and Macon County Hospital where he had been a patient 13 days. He had been in ill health for several years. Death was due to a heart ailment. He was 69 years old. Mr. Davidson was born on June 14, 1876 in Sullivan, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Davidson. He came to Mattoon with his parents when a small child. Until the time of his retirement 10 years ago, he was a brick contractor. He married Cordelia Honn, a native of Humboldt, on November 17, 1895. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniverary. Surviving besides Mrs. Davidson are four sons, Edward Davidson, Frank Davidson, Charles Davidson, and Harold Davidson, all of Mattoon; two daughters, Zella Wallace and Beulah Boorom, both of Mattoon; two brothers, Charles Davidson and Joe Davidson, both of Mattoon; two sisters, Jessie Ritter of Mattoon and Bessie Gilbert of Alton; eighteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
