DR. DAVID BURNS SIEBERT, 80, a well-known general surgeon in MANASQUAN, died Tuesday, June 10, of congestive heart failure. Dr. Siebert served almost 30 years at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, and in private practice in Point Pleasant, before retiring in 1995. Dr. Siebert attended Princeton University as an undergraduate, majoring in English, and enjoyed a lifetime avocation of writing. He completed his degree in three years, graduating in June of 1947 under the wartime V-12 Navy College Training Program. Those in the V-12 were on active duty, in uniform, and subject to strict military discipline. He attended medical school at Columbia University, where he also met his wife Theresa, one of the few women to graduate from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in the class of 1951. They married in 1952, whereupon Dr. Siebert was assigned to military duty in Germany as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Force. He served there for two years, then returned in 1954, to complete his residency at St. Luke's Presbyterian in 1958 (now New York Presbyterian). The Doctors Siebert moved to Manasquan in 1958 and purchased a home there, where they raised their two children. Dr. Siebert lived in the same home until his death. He was a member of the Manasquan River Golf and Country Club, and contributed his writing to the newsletter there for many years. In addition, he enjoyed The New York Times crossword puzzle every day.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his daughter, Laurel Michaels; his son, David Burns Siebert Jr.; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Heidi.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Catharine's Cemetery, West Chicago Boulevard, Wall. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Dr. David B.
