Services for Joseph Anthony Accardo will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 19, 2008, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Sebastian Kallarackal officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Accardo died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia; daughter, JoLynn Lewis; brothers, Leonard, Charles, Sidney, and Johnny Accardo; and sister, Katye Lofton. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Marie Accardo; grandson, Lance Lewis of Sulphur; son-in-law, Matthew Lewis and brother, Frankie Accardo and wife Delores of Baton Rouge; sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Chris Horton of Monroe; brother-in-law, Fred Taylor and wife Jean of Colorado; sister-in-law, Lula Brents of Arkansas; and a large family of nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

Mr. Accardo was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a Golden Glove Boxer at Neville High School. Mr. Accardo was very involved in the lives of young boys and men through the City of Monroe recreation department working as director of Benoit and Osterland Recreation Centers. Uncle Joe also coached Dixie Senior Baseball in the 1960s. He also worked as a referee, lineman, and chain crew with the football program at ULM and the Louisiana High School Association.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Jody, Mickey, and Michael Lofton, Ted Sr., Ted Jr., and Tim Davidson, Lonnie Johnston, and Joey Accardo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Neal, James McKay, Zeek Zametto, Dalton Harrell, Sammy Gray, Mike Ackle, Clarence Schmittzehe, and Charles McGough.
