He was the son of Charles & Thankful (Bartlett) Stearns and was an ensign in the Maine militia. He married Mary Ann Frost April 1, 1832 on his twenty-third birthday. He became ill with typhoid fever in July 1833 and died four weeks later. In 1837 Mary Ann married LDS Apostle Parley Pratt.

Inscription

"He left a wife and one child to mourn the loss of a departed husband and father. Being dead he yet speaketh: "Weep not for me for now I rest. Upon my loving Saviours breast, No more to weep, no more to cry, No more to sin, no more to die."
