Bucher.- Simon G., son of Allen D. and Mary (Gingrich) Bucher, was born Jan. 24, 1887; died at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, Pa., July 5, 1972; aged 85 y. 5 m. 11 d. He was married to Sallie Bachman, who preceded him in death. He was later married to Elizabeth Harnish, who survives. Also surviving are one foster daughter (Elsie-Mrs. Emerson Snavely), 2 foster sons (John Shuman and Stanley Hartman), one stepson (Lloyd Snavely), 17 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, one brother (Henry G.), and 2 sisters (Sallie and Esther Bucher). He was preceded in death by 3 children (in infancy), 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. He was ordained to the offices of deacon, minister, and elder in the Church of the Brethren. He transferred his membership to the Mennonite Church and was ordained bishop to serve in Lebanon County, Pa., in 1940. He also served as bishop in Cumberland County for a number of years and assisted in bishop responsibilities in Alabama and Florida for five years. Funeral services were conducted at the Gingrich Mennonite Church, Lebanon, Pa., in charge of Aaron Shank and Sidney Gingrich; interment in the church cemetery.
