Elijah S.(Lige) Briant Bio

He was sheriff of Sutton County, Texas. He shot and killed Will Carver, a member of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, who was attempting a robbery at Jack Owens' grocery store in Sonora, Texas on April 2, 1901. Carver is buried in the Sonora Cemetery under a headstone that bears only the date of his death.
