Confederate Texas Troops - 15th Regiment, Texas Cavalry

John W. Sullivan, 15 Texas Cavalry, Company C, 15 Texas Cavalry, (2 Reg’t Johnson’s Brigade) Co. F. Grandbury’s Consolidated Texas Brigade. Co. H, 17 Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry. Rank Private. Enlisted 25 February 1862 at Dallas, Texas for 12 months. Number of miles to rendezvous was 70 miles. Valuation of his horse is $160.00 and his equipment was $30.00. He died 5 June 1862.

It appears that Milton Sullivan, John’s brother and he enlisted in the same unit at the same time and same place. During the war they were in the Trans-Mississippi Department (June-August 1862). The units were headed by Thomas C. Hindman of Arkansas. Milton was captured prisoner in Hindman, Arkansas in January 1862, and John must have died fighting at the same place in June 1862.

His death record from the archives comes under the spelling of Sutherland with his file. Must have been an error in original spelling. Unable to find his burial.
