from the Republican for July 20, 1899:
William Armstrong died at his home three miles from New Winchester July 15, of paralysis of the heart. He was one of the pioneers of this county, coming here at an early day. He died at the age of eighty-one, a sincere Christian as his long life will testify. He was a member of the Baptist church. Rev. Allen, of Terre Haute preached his funeral at his late home to a very large assembly, after which he was laid to rest in the cemetery south of the village.
