Roman Catholic Saint. Lucera born Donato Antonio Giovanni Nicolò Fasani was a pious child, who entering the Order of Franciscan Friars Minor Conventuals in 1695, received the religious name of Francesco Antonio. Ordained presbyter in 1705, he earned a doctorate in theology in 1709. Teaching philosophy to younger friars, Fasani went on to serve as guardian of his friary, master of novices, provincial of the Monte Sant'Angelo province and finally pastor of his native hometown. Called to this day as "Padre Maestro", he was sought as a zealous confessor and preacher, he was a loyal friend to the poor, never hesitating to seek from benefactors what was needed. Known as a man of deep prayer, he was donned with supernatural gifts, known among others to levitate while praying. A great devotee of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, referring to himself as "il peccatore dell'Immacolata", at his death, which occurred on November 29, 1742 of natural causes in Lucera, children ran through the streets crying: "The Saint is dead! The Saint is dead!". Pope Pius XII beatified him on April 15, 1951 while Pope John Paul II declared him saint on April 13, 1986. His liturgical memory is held on November 27.
