On July 15, 1814, John Pamplin married Nancy L. Dunkin in Williamson County, Tennessee. By 1825, the Shelburne family moved again, this time to Lauderdale County, Alabama. About 1836, the family, led by John Pamplin Shelburne began the migration to Texas. They stopped for a growing season in Sabine Parish, Louisiana.
On July 4, 1838, John Pamplin Shelburne bought 921 4/5 acres of land from the estate of Stephen F. Austin. This is recorded in Austin County Deed Book A, pp 246-248, Deed #121.
In 1842, John P. Shelburne and his son-in-law, Alfred Minton, went to San Antonio to aid the Republic of Texas Troops in repelling Mexican Gen. Woll's forces from the city. They were paid $15.75 for the service by the state of Texas in 1853.
John Pamplin lived the rest of his life in Austin County, Texas. He can be found on the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. He was appointed the Adminstrator of the estate of his son-in-law Alfred Minton in 1853 in Austin County (Succession Book F, p. 385). He was appointed Administrator of the estate of his wife, Nancy Shelburne in 1859 in Austin County (Succession Book K, pp 436-449). He died in 1871. His will is recorded in Succession Book T, pp. 66-68.
