Roman Catholic Cardinal. The second of the six children, Eugenio Dal Corso was named after Pope Pius XII who was elected to the See of Saint Peter two months ahead of his birth. Frequenting the Institute of Don Calabria since the age of ten, he eventually joined its members of the Poor Servants of the Divine Providence, taking his vows in 1959. Ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of Verona on July 17, 1963, after completing his studies in Verona and Naples, he was sent to Laferrere in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, as a missionary in 1975, where he was assigned to oversee the formation of new priests. A decade later he was transferred to Luanda, Angola, where he was put in charge of the construction of the seminary of Uíje. Elected provincial of his Institute in Angola in 1991, Pope John Paul II elected him coadjutor to the see of Saurimo, receiving his episcopal consecration from Archbishop Félix del Blanco Prieto on March 3, 1996. Succeeding to the see on January 15 of the following year, he was transferred to the see of Benguela by Pope Benedict XVI on February 18, 2008. Retiring from office on March 26, 2018, he went on with other missionary activities within the diocese of Menongue, one of the most needy in Angola, serving amongst others as chaplain of the pastoral center of Saint Josefina Bakhita of Caiundo in the province of Kuando Kubango. Created cardinal priest in the consistory of October 5, 2019 by Pope Francis, receiving the title of Sant'Anastasia, becoming thus the first member of his Institute to be elevated to the Sacred College, he was already over 80 years of age upon his elevation and therefore not eligible to participate in a conclave. He passed away at the Casa dei Sacerdoti of Negrar aged 85.
