John Henry Storm, 78, a resident of Jennings since 1925, died Friday at his home here.

A native of London, Ky., Mr. Storm moved to Arkansas as a child with his family. A farmer, he moved to Hominy in 1916 from Newton County, Ark. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church at Oilton.

Surviving are his wife, Marinda, of the home; seven sons, Edward Storm, Jennings; Guy Storm, 1921 E. Haskell St., Tulsa; Sherman Storm, Oilton; Earl Storm, Spokane, Wash.; Howard Storm, Ballico, Calif.; Johnny Storm, Imperial Beach, Calif.; and Troy Storm, Lima,Ohio; seven daughters, Mrs. Mary Burgess and Mrs. Ruth Burgess, both of Terlton; Mrs Ellen Watson, Springdale, Ark.; Mrs Nora Frost, Pampa, Tex.; Mrs. Minnine Sparks, Hoisington, Kans.; Mrs Alta Baker, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mrs. Frances Carpenter, Manhattan, Mont.; 4 brothers, four sisters, 57 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God church in Jennings. Interment was at Hallett under the direction of Chapman Funeral Home of Cleveland.

Other known information:

John Henry Storm was the son of Jame Milton & Sarah Jane Martin Storm. According to several US Census' he was born in Arkansas - probably Newton County.

The 1900 US Census shows John as a Farm Laborer, living with his brother, Isham & his wife, Deliah.

Still living in Newton County but now residing in Ryker, AR, John Henry married Marinda Elizabeth 'Rinda' Hodge on May 12, 1901.

The family traveled to Prosper, Coos County, Oregon by 1910. The 1910 US Census shows John as a House Carpenter. They own their home, but it is mortgaged. They've probably been there since about 1906 - 1907 as their daughter, Nora, was born in April 1907 in Oregon. John & Marinda have been married 8 yrs and they have 5 children.

I'm unable to find them on the 1920 US Census but due to the birth dates of the children & information in John's Obituary I believe the following to be what may have occurred between the years 1907-1930:

The family moved from Arkansas to Oregon about 1906 as daughter, Nora, was born in April 1907 in Oregon. They remained there until after daughter, Alta 'May', was born in March 1913. The family must have traveled back to Arkansas as son, Howard, was born March 1915 in Arkansas. It's uncertain how long they stayed; John's obituary states he was farming in Oklahoma in 1916 and they must have been there a couple of years as his daughter, Mary 'Sis', was born in Oklahoma in February 1917.

By November 1918, the family has moved to Arkansas. John & Rinda's son, Joseph, was born in November 1918. They may have moved to help John's father...but I've not found any documentation or heard any family stories to confirm that; however, James Milton Storm passed away in May 1919 in Newton County, Arkansas.

This writer is uncertain when exactly, but the family returned to Oklahoma by November 1920 as son, Edward, was born there. In addition to the last 3 children born to John & Rinda Storm, their youngest, John, being born in September 1927. According to John Henry's obituary, the family was living in Jennings, Pawnee County, Oklahoma from about 1925.

The 1930 US Census shows John Henry still married to Marinda. He is a Farmer and they rent their farm. They have 10 of their children & 2 grandchildren living with them in McElroy, Pawnee County, Oklahoma.

John continues to farm and we next see him and Marinda on the 1940 US Census for Jennings, Pawnee County, Oklahoma. They still rent their farm. They have 5 of their children and 1 grandson living with them.

John Henry Storm died at his home on July 5, 1952 in Jennings, Pawnee County, Oklahoma. He is buried at Bethany Cemetery in Hallet, Oklahoma where several other family members are buried.
