During WWII, she lived in Chicago, IL where she met her first husband, Earl Luck Smith. They had two children. After several moves during WWII, Mildred and her young family subsequently moved to Georgetown, TX where she was an active leader in scouting, Rainbow Girls, and Eastern Star.
In 1963 she married Richard R. Smith, III, a former minister of the First Methodist Church in Georgetown. In the early 1960's, Mildred and Richard moved to Colorado Springs and their retirement home in Florissant, CME.
While employed as a personal banker for the First National Bank of Colorado Springs, Mildred was a community activist for Teller County local telephone service, and later as secretary of the Teller County Republican Party. She was an activist in the Florissant-Lake George Chamber of Commerce and Florissant Friends of the Library.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Richard R. Smith, III and her daughter, Bonnie Ann Smith. She is preceded in death by her son, Earl Lee (Butch) Smith (1943-1997) (also in Evergreen Cemetary).
Visitation was at Blunt Mortuary in Colorado Springs on June 5, 2008 from 4 - 8 p.m. Graveside services were at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs on June 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Florissant Friends of the Library, Teller County Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
