SARAH JANE was the daughter of John William Young and Emeline (Dunagan) Young. Her father may have passed away before 1856, because her mother married John Calvin Cooper on April 1, 1856, in Gibson County, Tennessee. Sarah Jane and her brother, John W. Young, were listed on the 1860 and 1870 census records living in the household of their mother, Emeline, and stepfather, John Calvin Cooper. They were listed with the surname Cooper. The 1929 Death Certificate of Sarah Jane's brother, John W. Young, gives the names of his parents as William Young and Emeline Dunagan.

Sarah Jane married first A. J. Patterson on May 18 1873, in Gibson County, Tennessee. They were the parents of two children. The daughter's name was possibly Emeline. The 1880 census record is unclear. Their son was William Alvin Patterson.

She married second R. A. Arnold on June 12, 1879, in Gibson County, Tennessee. They were the parents of Anna Mai, Homer, Lester, Ollie, and Bertha Arnold.

Sarah Jane passed away after the 1930 census record. She was widowed and living in the household of her son, Lester Arnold, at that time.
