Gary was born Aug. 31, 1908 to parents, Olaus and Claudine (Evenson) in Hallock, MN. After graduating from high school in Portland, ND where he was raised with five brothers and one sister, Gary was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Following his marriage on June 7, 1937 to Mabel Hoverson of Mayville, ND, he and Mabel moved to Seattle where he was subsequently employed for ten years at Boeing.
