Sherman L.D. Stewart was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stewart of Centerville, Iowa. He was born in Putnam County, Mo., March 10, 1886. He departed this life November 27, 1918, age 32 years, 8 months and 17 days. He went with his parents to Kansas and came to Iowa when he was 3 years of age, which place has been his home since. He was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Cole October 28, 1908. To this union were born four children, one dying in infancy, those living are two sons and one daughter. Richard F., Edith B, Leonard H. Those left to mourn his untimely death besides his wife and three children were his loving and broken hearted parents, three sisters and four brothers with other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Stewart was a resident of Numa for ten years, also a member of Local Union No. 873. He was taken sick Sunday afternoon and died the next Wednesday morning at 4:00 a.m. The cause of death was scarlet fever. Internment was made in the Numa cemetery.

Sherman Stewart's wife, Mabel, was pregnant when he died on 27 November 1918 and on 14 April 1919 she gave birth to their son, Sherman Edward Stewart.
