Pioneer Resident Dies
After Lingering Illness

James Eugene Sheehan, 83, pioneer resident of Antioch township, died at St. Therese hospital Wednesday following a lingering illness. He was born April 1, 1867. In a log cabin at the Sheehan homestead on the banks of Hastings lake now known as Hastings camp. His parents. Daniel and Bridget McCarthy Sheehan, came from Ireland by way of the Great Lakes in 1843 settling at Hastings lake. Mr. Sheehan was a farmer by occupation, retiring in 1940. He and Mrs. Sheehan had spent their winters in Florida for the past 25 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 8, 1948. With the exception of five years spent in Chicago Mr. Sheehan made Lake county his lifetime home. In Chicago he worked as a street car conductor when the cars were horsedrawn. He served on the original board that incorporated Antioch Township High school district and was the last surviving member of the board. Surviving are his wife, Louise, three daughters, Mrs. Robert Mc-Cann, Lake Villa; Mrs. Walter Lalor, Hebron, III.; Mrs. Everett Mc-Clure, Gurnee; and two sons, William E. Sheehan, Deerfield; and Daniel E, Sheehan, Antioch, A son, Fred, preceded him in death.
The body will rest at the home of the daughter, Mrs. McClure, at Gurnee until tomorrow (Friday) when the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at St.Peter's church in Antioch. Interment will be in Mount Carmel cemetery.
