Matte Martin, 79, Retired Steelworker, Died At Ellsinore
Matte Martin, 79, a retired steelworker of Ellsinoree, died of an apparent heart attack at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 1979, at his home.
Mr. Martin, a resident of Ellsinore for 20 years, was born April 18, 1900 in Paris, Tenn. He moved to Missouri at age 16, and married Hesel Crowley on Dec. 22, 1923 in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Ellsinore General Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon many years.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Charles Martin of Alton, Ill., Ralph Martin of Granite City, Ill., and Everett Martin of South Roxanna, Ill.; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday in McSpadden Funeral Chapel at Ellsinore. Rev. Travis Young and Rev. Wayne Matier officiated. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery near Ellsinore.
