Grant Murphy was born in Illinois on May 23, 1865 and was the son of Cyrus L. and Jennie Murphy.
In March of 1890 he was united in marriage to Jennie Eldora Campbell and to this union two children were born; Grace and Frank Murphy.
They spent their early years on a farm in the Walnut, Iowa vicinity, later moving to Harlan, Iowa where he was a rural mail carrier for many years. He was a member of the Harlan Methodist Church.
Grant was a brother to Charles O., Frank R., Luna M. and Jesse R. Murphy.
Burial in Harlan Cemetery.
